Adding required metadata fields to all templates

You may decide that you want certain Dublin Core metadata fields to be part of every metadata template in the system to ensure consistent metadata entry when users add digital assets to the hierarchy. Instead of having to modify each existing metadata template individually, you can use the Add Required Metadata to All option on the Metadata Templates page to quickly add selected Dublin Core metadata fields to all existing metadata templates.

Exercise caution when adding a required metadata field to all existing metadata templates. If you add a particular metadata field to all existing templates by mistake, you must edit each template individually to remove the metadata field from the list of required metadata fields for the template.

To add required metadata fields to all templates

1 Log in to the Admin console.
2 Choose Assets from the navigation pane.

The Assets page displays.

3 Choose Configure Asset Management.

The Configure Asset Management page displays a menu of options. (For descriptions of the options, see Fields: Configure Asset Management.)

4 Choose Metadata Templates.

The Metadata Templates page displays. (For descriptions of the fields on this page, see Fields: Metadata Templates.)

5 Choose Add Required Metadata to All.

The Add Required Metadata to All Templates page displays.

6 Select the metadata fields that you want to add to all templates as required metadata fields. (For more information, see Fields: Add Required Metadata to All Templates.)

Note: The required metadata fields will be added to the top of the Required Metadata list in every existing template, in the order specified in the Selected list. If a selected metadata field is already required in an existing template, that metadata field is not added to the template.

7 Choose OK to add the selected metadata fields as required metadata fields to all existing templates, and to return to the Metadata Templates page.
